Visa, MasterCard, etc., have created the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) Council which sets the standards for managing cardholder information security for all entities that store, transmit, or process credit card data. This includes merchants like you. Failure to comply with PCI DSS may result in fines levied against NMSU and, more importantly, NMSU could be subject to significant liabilities if cardholder data is ever compromised.
What this means for you
In order for you to process payment card transactions at NMSU, your department must meet the NMSU/PCI DSS requirements for training of employees.
