Abstract
This training is designed to help you recognize when FMLA may be needed by an employee for themselves or a family member and to provide education on the process for requesting FMLA and notifying Benefit Services when FMLA may be needed.
Description
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides job protected leave for employees for certain qualifying events specified by the Act. Any employee employed by NMSU at least 12 months and who has worked at least 1,250 hours during the twelve month period immediately preceding the commencement of leave is eligible for the job protected leave. Supervisors, and anyone else who would speak to employees about a leave of absence, need to understand what FMLA is and be able to recognize when an FMLA event may exist to ensure NMSU meets the federal requirement under FMLA to provide notice to all employees of their rights and responsibilities under the law within 5 days of knowledge of an FMLA event.
